Ready to dip your toes into the world of offshore fishing? Renegade Charters has you covered with this 8-hour trip tailored for newbies looking to gain their sea legs. We'll cruise out of Carrabelle, FL into the fish-rich waters of the Gulf, where you'll have a real shot at landing some impressive catches. Whether you're hoping to reel in a Red Snapper, tangle with a Mangrove Snapper, or maybe even battle a Grouper (if the season's right), this trip is all about learning the ropes and having a blast on the water.
Picture this: You're on a private charter with up to 5 of your buddies, family, or soon-to-be fishing pals. Captain Scott's at the helm, ready to share all his local knowledge and get you on the fish. Don't sweat the gear - we've got you covered with quality rods, reels, and bait. As we motor out, you'll feel the excitement build. The Gulf's known for its clear waters and abundant marine life, so keep your eyes peeled for dolphins, sea turtles, and maybe even a pod of whales if you're lucky. Once we hit our spot, it's all hands on deck as Captain Scott shows you the ropes - from baiting hooks to reading the fish finder. And when that first line goes tight? Get ready for the rush only a bent rod can bring!
Offshore fishing in the Gulf is a whole different ballgame from pond fishing back home. We'll likely be doing a mix of bottom fishing and drift fishing, depending on what's biting. You'll learn how to use circle hooks (they're a game-changer for catch and release), how to feel for that subtle nibble, and when to set the hook. We might drop lines near structure like reefs or wrecks where fish love to hang out. If we're after Mackerel, we might do some trolling - dragging lures behind the boat as we cruise. Don't worry if you're all thumbs at first; by the end of the day, you'll be handling that rod like a pro. And hey, if you get a monster on the line, we're all here to cheer you on and maybe lend a hand with the net.

King Mackerel: These speedsters of the Gulf are a blast to catch. Known for their blistering runs, King Mackerel can hit speeds of up to 60 mph! We usually target these bad boys by trolling with live bait or artificial lures. They're most active in the warmer months, from spring through fall. When a King Mackerel hits, hold on tight - their first run is legendary and will have your drag singing!
Red Snapper: The poster child of Gulf fishing, Red Snapper are as beautiful as they are delicious. These ruby-red beauties hang out near reefs and structures, often in water 60-250 feet deep. They're known for their strong initial run towards the bottom, so be ready to put your back into it. Red Snapper season is strictly regulated, but when it's open (usually in the summer), it's like a holiday for Gulf anglers. The excitement of pulling up a big Red Snapper never gets old.
Gag Grouper: If you're looking for a true test of strength, Gag Grouper are your fish. These bottom-dwellers are ambush predators, using their massive mouths to inhale prey. When you hook one, it's a tug-of-war as they try to dive back to their rocky homes. Gags are typically caught in cooler months, from fall through early spring. Landing a big Gag is a real accomplishment - they can grow over 50 pounds! The fight and the potential for a huge fish make Gag Grouper a favorite target for many Gulf anglers.
So, what do you say? Ready to turn those fishing dreams into reality? This 8-hour trip with Renegade Charters is the perfect way to get your feet wet in the world of offshore fishing. You'll learn from the best, have a shot at some real quality fish, and make memories that'll last a lifetime. Whether you're looking to finally learn how to fish "for real" or just want a fun day out with friends and family, Captain Scott's got you covered. Remember, there's a fuel surcharge on the day of the trip, but trust me, it's worth every penny for the adventure you're in for. Give Captain Scott a ring at 850-251-0784 to lock in your date. Gag Grouper are hard-fighting bottom dwellers that'll test your arms and your gear. Average size is around 10-20 pounds, but they can top 50 pounds. You'll find them near any structure - reefs, ledges, wrecks - typically in 60-250 feet of water. Fall and winter are prime seasons when they move closer to shore. Anglers love gags for their bulldog fighting style and excellent eating quality. When you hook one, be ready for it to dive for cover. I like using heavy conventional tackle with 50-80 pound braid. Live bait is king - pinfish or grunts work great. One local trick is to use a breakaway sinker. When a big gag hits and runs for its hole, the sinker pops off, giving you a better chance of turning its head. Just make sure your drag is locked down tight!
King Mackerel are a prized catch off Carrabelle, known for their blistering speed and hard-fighting nature. These sleek predators typically run 20-30 pounds but can top 90 pounds for the real monsters. You'll find them in waters 40-150 feet deep, often near structure where baitfish congregate. Summer and early fall are prime seasons as kings migrate through our area. Anglers love targeting them for the thrill of the strike and the acrobatic runs. Kings have a reputation for biting through leaders, so we use wire to prevent cutoffs. A local trick is to slow-troll live bait like blue runners or cigar minnows. Keep your drag set light - when a king hits, it'll peel line like you wouldn't believe. Just be mindful they have high mercury levels, so catch-and-release is common for the big ones.
Red Snapper are a Gulf favorite, with their bright red color and tasty white meat. Most we catch run 5-10 pounds, but they can grow over 30 pounds. You'll find them hanging around reefs, wrecks, and rocky bottom in 60-300 feet of water. They're structure-oriented fish, so precise anchoring or drifting is key. Late spring through summer is snapper season here, when the bite really fires up. Folks love catching them for the fight and the excellent table fare. Red snapper pull hard for the bottom when hooked, so heavy tackle is a must. One trick I use is to drop a chum bag down first to get them fired up. Then send down a live pinfish or cut bait on a circle hook. Let them take it and start reeling - the circle hook will do the rest.
